A worldwide travel alert for American citizens was issued on Wednesday following the U.S governments accusing Iran of a plot to assassinate Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Washington. The accusations levelled against Iran by the U.S state that two men conspired to kill the Saudi Arabian official as well as carrying out bomb attacks on both Israeli and Saudi embassies.
The main suspect in the plot, Mansour Arbabsiar, has appeared in court in New York. US officials say the conspirators had planned to hire a Mexican drug trafficker to carry out murder of the Saudi envoy in a restaurant in Washington.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that America’s allies would work together to increase sanctions on Iran in the wake of this incident. However the allegations are being robustly denied. Mohammad Khazaee,Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, has dismissed the allegations against his government as “fabricated and baseless”.
