German Chancellor Angela Merkel will be in Rome on Wednesday for discussions on the eurozone crisis with Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti. Also in attendance will be high level German and Italian government members.

Their meeting comes ahead of next weeks crucial summit for eurozone finance ministers. High on the agenda then will be discussions on mechanisms for providing bailout funds directly to banks as opposed to governments, thereby avoiding further increases in sovereign debt.
