With the depressing inevitability of a rained out summer, if its August, its the return of the X Factor to our screens. After last years fairly lacklustre offering, it has embraced the mantle of the underdog slightly in a bid to increase its viewing figures. However millions of people still tune in so any potential demise is still a long way off. Probably.

Pink tribute act Zoe Alexander took her wrath at being rejected variously out on the judges, cameramen and uninvolved props and scenery. They should have kept her in really. Obvious finalist Jahmene Douglas, hugely reminiscent of tv detective Adrian Monk, made us sit up and take notice with his Susan Boyle moment. Other than that it was business as usual really and yes, sadly enough, we will all still be watching it till Christmas.
